Mark Van Dam is an artist based in Southern California, where he was born and raised. While growing up near the ocean, Mark was able to enjoy the activities of body boarding, surfing, body surfing, and snorkeling from an early age. The time spent with these ocean activities instilled a deep appreciation for nature and contemplation. In addition to ocean activities, Mark also got into hiking throughout California, fly fishing in Montana, and much more. All of these things help to inspire his artwork.
Mark was first introduced to art as a young boy, but was originally turned off by a negative teacher. Many years later, Mark came back to art when visiting a friend who had some oil paints and paper at their house. After asking if he could try to paint something, he painted a sunset scene and was hooked thereafter. Throughout the next 20 years, Mark delved deeply into painting, producing a large volume of work, showing his art at numerous outdoor shows, various galleries in Southern California, the Laguna Art Affair in Laguna Beach, and much more. Mark has won multiple awards and has been featured in the local press.
